I tried it today and it worked for me...its a bit risky though :)

Now lets say that u succeed to upgrade +5 Chitin Shield to +10...Everything goes good,until u reverse it and when its getting reversed u see that instead of +21 it goes +10...then it doesnt glow as +21 it will start glowing like +10 reversed ( means turning black and white :)

the way to make it glow as +21 its to USE a bus that will upgrade the reversed item and to try to make it +11 reversed, then it will got to +1 and will start glowing as +21
I HOPE IT WAS HELPFULLY

ok, lets go back to the game :)
