We needed to change it to 5k kills because people abused the quest when it was 300. For some people, 5k is still not too much and I m sure they already finished once or twice the quest(with another char).
For you it will take long, but its worth the wait because you will get one part of the best donator armor of the game.
And you still can get a sn+9 set with 300 souls, wich is good armor to pk when you dont have hero. (And if you have luck, you can make it +10
)Also, Sn part are not hard to get, a bp can solo trollgore in Dark land, drop a lot of SN box and then exchange them for part in moradon generator (randomly).
