I'm not sure what to exactly say about this. I had just downloaded and installed/patched the client and when I tried to start it, my screen turned black as if it were loading, the windowed client popped up, (the bar at the top said not responding next to the program name) then went back to my desktop.

I'm unable to take a picture because it happens way too fast for me to capture it.

were you running it as administrator?
what antivirus do you use and was it off?

Try and repatch your client while your antivirus is off. (if you cant turn your antivirus off then exclude Maxko.exe from it)
run the program as admin and let me know if it helps.

I'm running BitDefender. But I've had it turned off for a while. So I'm not sure. How do I repatch?

I installed the last three patches manually. Nothing. It was 1599 -> 1601.

If you can start the client, your GFX card supports maxko. If you can login in the server, your client is up-to-date. If the client loads and says not responding, it can indicate that you have a slow computer, or low on ram memory. As windows 7 needs 700-ish mb ram (min reccomended is 1024 ram) it's possible you will get a "no responding" answer from the client.
Eventually, your client should get throug the loading process (this can take a while on a slow pc).

Post your log.klg here, I'll see what the exact problem is and how you can solve it.

Kind regards,
Nyllian
